ATTENTION: MEMBERS, STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, FAMILIES

Certainly the last few months have been challenging for our entire community. While we had to close our building during the early weeks of the pandemic, we have continued to play an important role in supporting children, youth, families and seniors. Even through the closure, we felt it was important to offer any support we could during these trying times.

Recently, we reopened on a very small scale for children of families in need of child care to be part of day camp programs. They have been scaled down from our usual summer schedule. We can only have a limited number of people in the building, and everyone has to go through a screening process.

Figuring out how to operate the camps under so many restrictions has been an ongoing learning experience and we will continue to offer day camps for children and youth only until the last week of August. This means that we plan to reopen the Horton Street Seniors' Centre on September 8th.

This will allow us time to complete camps, plan the reopening of Horton Street with the proper health protections and protocols, and continue with current programs for seniors such as Senior Centres Without Walls. The reopening will take place with a phased-in approach.

While we have been planning as an organization to welcome seniors back for some time, we are awaiting additional guidelines and best practices specific for seniors so we can open safely. The health and safety of everyone is extremely important to us.

As we proceed, we will be providing more information about what programs will be open first and the guidelines for them.

The safety of our members at the HSSC has always been our top priority.

We would like to reopen our pools and return to “normal” but after lengthy discussions and consultations we have made the difficult decision to keep our pools closed at this time. We are running summer camps on a small scale and have to limit the number of people in the building.

We are constantly assessing the current COVID-19 situation and the impact it has on our community and hopefully we have better news soon. We face many challenges re-opening the pools in terms of the health and safety of our members and visitors. Unfortunately, it is often the most difficult decisions that are best for everyone’s well being.

We would like to thank you for your support and understanding during this challenging and ever-changing times.

Updated on June 10th, 2020 - Aquatic Programs and Memberships

With the announcement that water recreational facilities and swimming pools can re-open, at this time, we are unsure when we'll be open for swim lessons and recreational swim.

If you have registered for spring and summer swim lessons, you will be receiving a full refund due to our closure.

Once a decision has been made in regards to re-opening our pool, we'll be posting an update on our website and social media.

Many of you have inquired about your membership status. At this time, there is no need to concern yourself with renewals, card pick-ups, and/or any other membership related concern.

Once we return to normal, a process will be implemented to compensate all members for the time loss being able to access programs directly within the Boys & Girls Club of London.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Updated on June 2nd, 2020 - Summer Day Camps

For many years the Boys and Girls Club of London has offered a variety of camps for children in our community. This year, with the onset of COVID-19, camps at the Club will be significantly impacted.

With the uncertainty that surrounds camps this summer, we have made the decision to refund all camp fees and cancel current registrations. Refunds will be done automatically and may take a few weeks to process.

While we still hope to run some form of camp, any decision to move forward will be based on recommendations from health authorities. If we do have camps, we know that they will be much smaller and more limited in space. It will also have an impact on the theme or type of camp that is offered and even where it will be offered.

As we move forward, please continue to check the Club's website for more details. We will be updating the site as we learn more about what we can offer. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Club closure is in effect until further notice. We will be monitoring the situation closely.

This closure will affect all children and youth programs, seniors programs, rentals including birthday parties, swim lessons, special events and HSSC events, and day camps. We will continue to work on issuing refunds /credits for activities and programs that have been cancelled/postponed. We appreciate your patience with this process as it does take some time.

On-going Precautions

There are measures we can take now to prevent the spread of illness. Please take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:
  • Practice regular and thorough hand washing especially after coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose; after using the washroom or changing diapers; before preparing food or eating.
  • Practice good cough etiquette by coughing into your sleeve or into a tissue.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth as once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus and from there, the virus can enter your body and make you sick.
  • If you are sick, please stay home, including if you are taking medications to mask symptoms (such as fever, coughing or shortness of breath).
