How to Apply to Volunteer

Whichever area in which you would like to volunteer, the application process is the same. Applicants must be high-school age* or older.

*For students in Grades 7 and 8, we have youth programs that include volunteer opportunities built into the program. Please contact us for details about the Youth Action team.

BGC London (BGCL/the "Club") is an equal opportunity organization and welcomes and encourages applications from people of all gender identities including people of visible minorities, Indigenous peoples and people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process. We welcome all applications but only those selected will be contacted.

Online Application

1. Fill out an online application.

2. The three references listed on the application will be contacted. You may also include letters of reference, if you have them. References may be personal or professional; examples of appropriate references include supervisors and employers, teachers, coaches, co-workers and classmates, friends of the family and neighbours, etc.

References cannot be family members, spouses, significant others, or equivalent.

3. Applicants will be invited to attend an orientation session and provided with required online training. Following completion of the orientation, online training, and new volunteer paperwork, volunteers may set up a schedule of their choosing, based on their availability and program needs.

Important Note

Applicants who are 18 years old or older will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). BGCL requires an original, hard copy of a VSC that is specific to volunteering duties at the BGCL. A criminal record does not automatically preclude eligibility.

The BGCL will provide instructions and a letter to the police department requesting you obtain a VSC. The cost of the VSC will be reimbursed to volunteers after they begin volunteering. If you would like to begin the process of obtaining a VSC prior to attending a volunteer orientation, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

Prospective Placement Students

Placement opportunities exist for students who are currently involved in a high school, college, or university program that require an unpaid placement as part of their curriculum. The placement opportunities available at the Club focus primarily on program development and support on site, but the details of each placement will be determined based on the requirements of the placement and the needs of the Club.
