The Boys & Girls Club of London is looking forward to having your child(ren) join us for Evening Adventure!

Through safety measures, recommendations and policies provided by the municipality, public health, and our national organization, we have prepared to meet the standards and guidelines in order to open for children's programs after-school. We appreciate your support and understanding as we all navigate through these changes that have affected our lives, especially our children.

The health and well-being of our children, families, and staff, is our top priority. Upon arrival at the Boys & Girls Club of London, you will discover many changes and new procedures put in place to ensure the health and safety of all those who enter.

We wish to advise you of what to expect to avoid surprises.

General Information

We're now open for children's evening program!

We will be accommodating as many children as possible in a registered after school recreation program that will allow children to explore and engage with a variety of opportunities in a safe and responsible manner.

Unfortunately, this means that only current members of the Boys & Girls Club will be able to attend until further notice.

We have also made the difficult decision to postpone the busing program until further notice. Parents and caregivers will be responsible for providing transportation to and from the Boys & Girls Club. We’re very sorry for any inconvenience.

Youth programs will be available online initially, then we will move to some in-person experiences as we can identify ways to do so responsibly.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND!

Your child must have a valid membership to the Boys & Girls Club of London. If your child's membership has expired, you will need to register for a new membership.

NOTE - REGISTRATION FOR ALL WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL THERE ARE NO SPACES AVAILABLE!

At this time, there will not be a limit to how many times your child(ren) can attend program however, we reserve the right to revise this if there is a waiting list for children who would like to attend.

If any registered members miss three (3) days of programs without notifying the BGCL beforehand of their absence, their spot will be given to another member on the wait list.

Drop off / Pick-Up / Health Screening

To ensure everyone’s safety, all individuals entering the Boys & Girls Club must participate in an active pre-screening and members are required to have their temperature checked by an on-site Boys and Girls Club staff member EACH NIGHT THEY ATTEND PROGRAM.

Prior to joining Evening Adventure every night, our staff will be asking assessment questions that you can complete online or upon arrival. Completing this online will most likely shorten the wait time at drop off, if completed correctly. 

Our questions are relating to having symptoms, previous contact with others who may have COVID-19 or have travelled outside of Canada. If any of the questions are answered yes, the staff will request that you delay your visit, consider visiting your health care provider and to stay at home. All completed questionnaires are kept for our records for contact tracing purposes for the Middlesex-London Health Unit, in case individuals need to be contacted due to outbreak.

Dropping off your child(ren)

  1. Please complete the online screening prior to arrival at the Boys & Girls Club of London. Please click here to start the online Health Screening Questionnaire.
  2. Please wait outside of Boys & Girls Club at physical distancing markers until you are permitted inside the lobby of the building. Please prepare for inclement weather as there is no shelter outside of the building. 
  3. Everyone will be asked to use hand sanitizer which is provided upon entry and remain at the desk safely behind the plexiglass barrier. Individuals cannot travel past the desk until screening is passed.
  4. Our screening staff will be wearing PPEs. If you are having difficulty hearing instructions, please kindly advise us.
  5. Either the pre-screener will review your online questionnaire or complete a hard copy at the Boys & Girls Club.
  6. A temperature check of the child(ren) will be taken and recorded.
  7. If all questions are answered NO and temperature is at 37.7°C or lower, child may enter and join program. A staff member will escort your child(ren) to their homeroom and the front desk will sign the attendance on your behalf to minimize contact.
  8. If any question is answered yes and/or temperature is 37.8°C or greater and/or displays symptoms, the individual cannot be admitted to the program. The family will be directed to contact their health care provider.
  9. INCLUSION NOTE – Children with exceptionalities (special needs) who are current members may pre-register to participate in Evening Adventure with their support worker. We are unable to provide support workers for our Evening Adventure program. There is no fee for the support worker. Children must remain in their assigned cohorts and follow the program schedule set each night.

Picking up your child(ren)

  1. Evening Adventure ends at 7:00 p.m. each night. Please arrive as promptly as possible for pick-up.
  2. Parents and caregivers will not be permitted into the building during pick-up. You must call or text our Front Desk at 226-236-3307 to let us know which child(ren) you are picking up.
  3. If you are driving, please park in one of the designated, numbered parking spaces near the building and call or text our Front Desk to let us know what parking spot number you are in. There are ten (10) designated, numbered parking spaces available.
  4. If you are walking or taking public transportation, please wait outside of the building at physical distancing markers.
  5. Please prepare for inclement weather as there are no shelters outside of the building.
  6. Please ensure that you/caregiver are listed as an individual allowed to pick up child(ren), and bring government issued photo identification. All adults must show their government issued photo identification to the staff member when picking up child(ren) from the Boys & Girls Club of London.
  7. After the staff views photo identification and verifies pick-up person, a designated staff member will locate and escort child(ren) to the front entrance to authorized pick up adult.
  8. Front desk staff will sign out child upon leaving, to ensure contactless sign out.

A few other items to note:

  1. Evening Adventure is for Grades 1 to 8.
  2. No extended care available – Program drop off is no earlier than 4:00 p.m. Pick up is no later than 7:00 p.m. All children must be picked up by 7:00 p.m. Due to these safety procedures, please expect a delay.
  3. All participants are divided into cohorts of 10 children per cohort and supervised by 1 staff member and 1 cleaning staff. Please note that all siblings or individuals in the same household or as requested will be grouped together in the same cohort.
  4. Physical spacing to encourage children to remain apart from one another during activities to support 2 metres (6 feet) physical distancing.
  5. Participants will remain on site as there will be no bus trips or out-trips. Based on the weather, cohorts will participate in general outdoor activities in Kaleidoscope Alley/Lion's Lane where permitted.
  6. Swimming – The pool will not be available at this time.
  7. Supper Club is available for an extra fee of $2.00 per child, per day. A Supper Club Pass is also available for purchase for $60.00 per child and is valid for the program year (September 2020 to June 2021). You can purchase a Supper Club Pass using the online Children's Program Registration form OR purchase it at a later time using this form which is strictly used to purchase Supper Club Passes.
  8. Children must wear masks or face coverings while in program. If they do not have a face mask or face covering, one will be provided for them to wear for the night. Masks can be removed during gym time as the space allows safe, physical distancing. Children are welcomed to and encouraged to bring and wear their own face masks.

Preventative Measures

Our team would like to share an update with you and your family on the preventative measures in place at the Boys & Girls Club of London:

  • New procedure for pre-screening before entering the buildings. New procedure regarding isolation if an individual displays symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Encouraging frequent hand washing throughout the day by all participants and staff. Hand sanitizers stations have increased and are readily available at the BGCL.
  • Multiple cleaning procedures of shared surfaces using approved products for disinfection by Health Canada.
  • Additional staff are hired to clean and ensure the disinfection and sanitization of equipment, furniture, washrooms, and all high traffic shared surfaces.
  • PPEs are provided to our staff and are mandatory to be worn when 2 metres (6 feet) physical distancing is not possible with children and other individuals. All staff have participated in training specifically in regards to these additional safety measures as well.
  • All rooms and spacing are sanitized and reconfigured to ensure physical distancing and reduce the interaction between other cohorts of children.
  • Drop off area is in the front lobby at the BGCL where staff will meet and escort participants, and parents/caregivers must depart after drop off.
  • Any visitors, aside from Boys & Girls Club of London employees, scheduled guests, and registered participants, are to remain outside of building and cannot travel through facility without permission by management.

Dates: Starting Monday, September 28th until further notice (Monday to Friday only)

No program on Monday, October 12th due to Thanksgiving holiday.

Inclusion

Costs

Supper Club is available for an extra fee of $2.00 per child, per day.

Supper Club Pass is also available for purchase for a flat rate of $60.00. The Supper Club Pass is valid from September to June.

My child/children’s membership expired during the time the BGCL was closed. Can I still register them for program?

If your child was a regular participant in Evening Adventure during the last school year, 2019-2020, yes, you can register for program.

How is the BGCL handling memberships that expired during the closure (March 2020 to June 2020)?  Will there be a discount for a new membership or a refund for the lost time?

Many of you have inquired about your membership status. At this time, there is no need to concern yourself with renewals, card pick-ups, and/or any other membership related concern.

Once we return to normal, a process will be implemented to compensate all members for the time loss being able to access programs directly within the Boys & Girls Club of London.

My child has never been a member of the BGCL. Can I register them for a membership and then register them to attend program?

Yes. Our membership model is accessible so we encourage families to reach out if assistance is required. You can find information about our memberships here .

My child has special needs and requires support. Can they still attend?

Yes, they can attend if you are able to provide a support worker for them. We are unable to provide one-to-one support.

There is no cost for the support worker to attend however we will need to record some personal information for our COVID-19 contact tracing log. 

Children must be pre-registered, and they will be placed in a cohort and they will have to follow the schedule that is provided.

What activities will be available for children in the program?

We are planning to assign children to cohorts based on ages (siblings will be in the same cohort).

Each cohort will have approximately 30 minutes to play in each pre-assigned program areas.

They will be rotating through various program rooms available to participate in activities ranging from arts and crafts, games, sports, and more. The program areas and activities meet the age and needs of all of the participants. 

How many spaces are actually available?

By law, we can accommodate up to 50 participants each day at this time.

The Junior M.A.P. program will be operating both in-person and virtually. There will be a maximum of 10 participants each day. For more information about Junior M.A.P., please click here.

For the children’s recreation program (Evening Adventure), we can accommodate:

  • 40 children per day from Mondays to Fridays
  • 10 youth per day from Mondays to Fridays
Will there be any virtual activities/programs available?

*New* Registration is open for 4 virtual programs - free for all children. Click here for details! These programs start the week of November 16th and end the week of January 18th.

The Junior M.A.P. program is offering virtual and in-person tutoring support. The Senior M.A.P. program is only offering virtual tutoring support at this time.
