New Program for LGBT2SQIA+ Youth

By Shelby Weaver

The Sexuality and Gender Equality (S.A.G.E.) program is an initiative to promote inclusive, safe spaces for high-school-aged youth to express themselves and explore their identities. The S.A.G.E. program is developed by LGBT2SQIA+ youth for LGBT2SQIA+ youth to ensure that the program meets their unique needs. S.A.G.E. has partnered with other community organizations that support LGBT2SQIA+ youth to deliver social and educational programs, such as Anova and Regional HIV/AIDS Connection.

Beginning the week of October 20th, S.A.G.E. will offer bi-weekly drop-in sessions. The month’s first session will be a social time for LGBT2SQIA+ youth to connect in a safe and inclusive environment. Activities will include a D.I.Y. decorate-your-own clothes night and Queer Halloween. The second session of the month will be educational, with discussions on gender identity and sexual orientation, healthy relationships, and safe online dating, to name a few.

BGC London’s S.A.G.E. program strives to provide education for LGBT2SQIA+ youth who may be looking for information in other places. This program ensures they can learn about themselves and others in a safe and inclusive space, where everyone’s voice is heard and valued. The program will continue to be evaluated by LGBT2SQIA+ youth and community partners to ensure that the program continues to meet the needs of youth in the community.
